Birthday Weekend

As mentioned on Saturday's post we traveled to Houston this past weekend for a birthday celebration.
The two husbands and Angie and Christie's mom and dad offered to watch the three kids while Angie and Christie spent sister time together. The twins headed to the mall and the rest of the family had cousin/grandparent time. The other large gift included in the weekend was that the parents also gave the sisters money for their shopping time, so no worry for the husbands as these two sisters headed out the door.
Thank you Arisman's and Philpot's for a fun family weekend!

Happy Birthday

Today we celebrated Mommy's birthday and David's 17 month birthday. It is hard for us to believe. He is more and more like a little boy each day.
Mommy wanted a birthday picture with David. However, David was not in the mood. He was ready to go drive Mommy's car. We spent the weekend at Angie's sisters house; they are twins and want to be together on their birthday when possible.
David driving Mommy's car... one of his favorite activities at 17 months... what will it be like at 16 years?

More on our weekend to come. Happy 17 months David!

You Are My I Love You

I am your parent,

you are my child.

I am your quiet place;

you are my wild.

I am your finish line;

you are my race.

I am your praying hands;

you are my saying grace.

David we love you!

A Real Mower

David continues to be in awe of all yard equipment. He watches Greg work in the yard and never gets bored. On Saturday morning Greg mowed and weed eated as usual. Then Saturday evening while playing in the backyard David requested to go inside and get his "mow." Upon returning outside he did the following...

Apparently he noticed that Daddy's mower does not stay clean. If you use it is must have grass on it. Oh and if you are wondering about David's "outfit" he requested and insisted on wearing one of Mommy's shirts.

Backyard Hike

David is very into sticks. Most of the time they are weed eaters in his world. We go no where without a stick, Mommy even keeps one in the car. Last week David once again collected sticks in our backyard. But he did not weed eat, he used them to "hike."

We are loving this nice fall weather!

Happy Cookies

Any time David sees something smiling he calls it a "Happy." While at Target Thursday David spotted some "Happy Cookies." Angie thought she and David would bake together often before he was born. Now that she lives in reality slice and bake seemed like a great idea. Into the basket went those pumpkin cookies. When we got home and unloaded our bag David asked to bake the cookies by holding the box and saying please. How is a Mommy to say no to such polite manners. Here is our first attempt at slice and bake.
Getting our cookie sheet prepped and our sprinkles ready...

After David slipped that into his mouth Angie was on the phone with her sister asking if her little boy had ever gotten sick from raw cookie dough. Christie reassured Angie that David would be fine. Too bad he can't really eat it because he wanted more.

more sugar... in case you are wondering there was more sugar on the floor than on our cookies:)

waiting 8 minutes for our cookies to bake

just as Mommy was reminding David these were hot... his little hand tried to touch the cookie sheet... David looks at Mommy and says, "HOT!"

David's first taste; one bite and he threw it on the ground. Oh how we wish we could feed him the dough!

Plated Dinner

David, as you know, is not in love with meal time. To that end we have tried letting him help us more in the kitchen with certain tasks. We have also begun letting him
eat with our plates, utensils, etc.... Because of this, in the last few weeks, we have lost a dinner plate, salad plate, soup bowl, and tea cup. All were casualties for help unloading the dishwasher, David wanting to feed himself, and pure frustration with not wanting to eat. So, last week Angie and David went to Target to buy a plastic plate to try out. Upon returning home Angie and David were washing the plate together. Then dried it and placed it on the island. Angie then began washing out a cup for David. David climbed on the step stool, got his plate, and dropped it on the floor. Yes, another plate broken.:(
We decided to try one more time. Angie and David headed back to Target and purchased another plate on Thursday. David had his first plated meal Thursday evening. Here is how it went.
Chicken rice and cheese, pureed green beans, baked carrot sticks, and one of his happy pumpkin cookies.

As you can tell this dinner like all others started off with a frazzled Mommy and baby just trying to get him in his seat. But Mommy was happy David chose green beans first. Although this is one of his favorite foods.

Second bite... cookie. Which then was thrown on the floor.

Mommy got David to finish the carrots and green beans and then David was "All Done!"
