Our First Outing

We decided to make Memorial Day memorable by trying our first outing with David. Angie needed a new watch battery after her watch sat idle for a week. We decided to head to the Domain early Monday morning. Angie packed the diaper bag, fed David, and changed David. We were running behind schedule, by an hour or so, but decided to still try even though it was heating up a bit outside. Greg loaded the car complete with diaper bag, stroller, and carrier.

We were off. We made a quick drive through at Chick-fil-A so that Greg and Angie could eat on the way.

As we were almost to our destination David began to get fussy, not typical of his personality, so far. We decided he must not like his car seat. When we arrived and parked Greg realized David was soaking wet, through the diaper and all the way to his clothes. We opened the back of our Suburban, changed him and put him into a new outfit. We were now ready to buy a watch battery.

We walked down to the jewelry store. Angie gave them her watch and was told it would be about 10 minutes. We decided to just wait. It was getting hot outside and we wanted David to stay out of the sun. While in the store David began to get fussy again. He was not wet or dirty, he was not tired, he should not have been hungry . . . but he was. There was no place to feed him at Ben Bridge Jewelers. So, Angie went across the street to Borders thinking there may be a mommy/baby lounge.

Upon entering Borders Angie found no lounge and no secluded location to feed the now screaming baby she was holding in her arms. Out of desperation she plopped herself down in the middle of Borders to feed David.

Greg walked in after waiting at the jewelry store for the watch and said, "I never thought I would ever see you do this!" Angie's reply, " I never thought I would either, but I was attracting too much attention with a nine day old screaming baby."Our plan was to feed David enough just to get him calm, head back to the car to finish his feeding. We quickly headed out of the bookstore and back to the car.

As we arrived at the car, Greg pulled David out of the stroller so that Angie could feed him and realized once again David was wet through his diaper down to his clothes. So, we once again changed his diaper and outfit in the back of our Suburban. Then Angie finished feeding him.

We decided we had three more hours until he would need to eat again. So, we headed for REI, we needed one item, and then we would go home. Greg carried David in and Angie ran to grab what we needed. They did not have what we were looking for, so three minutes and we were back at the car, to discover that yes David was wet again. We had no more outfits. We decided to head for home.

Upon arriving home Angie went upstairs to change the wet diaper. As soon as the clean and dry diaper was on it came off, now there was a dirty diaper. After two diaper changes in 5 minutes, David let us know he was hungry once again. Time for another feeding!

Our outing was memorable, but we never thought something so simple could have turned into something so comical! David initiated us into parenthood well!

  2. OMGoodness! I am laughing so hard (with you, not at you) I have tears in my eyes. I love it - all of it! Lex and I have each hollered on more than one occasion "Gotta leaker!" And nursing in the bookstore, don't blame you a bit. Desperate times call for desperate measures! It is amazing to see how much better babies do once they arrive home. So glad to see you are all doing well!
