Watching Television

We have never watched much television in our home - we don't have cable or satellite. So, we have a choice of 5 channels, none of which have exceptional programming. However, there were some evenings when there was something on television we wanted to watch.
Since David joined our family we realize we really no longer watch television. What do we do? We watch David. If you were to walk into our home these are some of the images that you would see. We love spending time with our little boy.

Aunt Christie

Both of our families have come to help us immensely since the birth of David, but there will be more on this in a later post.
We have also had the help of Angie's sister, Christie. She came the week that David was born with her 3 year old son, Luke. While here Luke knew that he had serious work to do taking care of his new cousin, but much of Christie's time was spent taking care of Luke rather than David.
So, she offered to come back to help after Angie's parents left. Christie came back without her little one a few days later, and we were so very glad!
While she was here she cleaned, washed, cooked, helped in the middle of the night with feedings, made bottles, and was a wonderful model of a loving and patient mother for Angie.
She spent time talking to David, taking him around with her where ever she went telling him what he was seeing.

She played with him, putting together his new favorite toy, his jungle play gym.

She got him dressed and ready for the day while Angie was getting ready herself for a doctors appointment.
She drove Angie and David to 2 doctors appointments and the grocery store.

David with Dr. Yuim, Angie's wonderful doctor!

Christie did all of this while in less than a week her family would be leaving for a family vacation to Hawaii. She could have been in Houston preparing for her family and she was here taking care of ours!
Thank you for being so selfless and taking care of us!

So BIG

Tomorrow David will be 2 weeks old. We cannot believe how much we love our little boy!
Today we had is 2 week visit with the pediatrician. Our goal was to get David to gain weight! While we were in the hospital David lost too much weight and that was one of the reasons we had to stay a bit longer.
David was born 7 pounds 14 ounces and dropped to 7 pounds 1 oz. We brought him home exactly one week ago today and he weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces. Today when we checked in with his doctor he weighed 7 pounds 15.5 ounces. He is now in the 25 percentile in weight.
David also has grown. He is now 21 inches long, gaining 3/4 of an inch in 2 weeks.
We are beginning to see a little baby fat on his legs, he does not like to miss a meal!
We are grateful for his appetite and are just amazed at what a blessing we have been given!

Pet Vet

Today we took an outing to the animal clinic. Angie knew that Bella was due for her vaccinations in about 3 weeks. However, she did not want to try and take Bella and David to the vet by herself. So, she made an appointment for Bella while Greg is off of work.
Greg wanted David to join in the trip because in Greg's younger years he worked at the animal clinic and wanted the staff to meet David. So, this morning we all piled into the Suburban for Bella's trip to the vet.
David did well - slept the entire time. Bella enjoyed it also, it is the most attention she has had in 12 days. We discovered while we were there that David was born on Dr. Kniffin's (the veterinarian) birthday.

Our First Outing

We decided to make Memorial Day memorable by trying our first outing with David. Angie needed a new watch battery after her watch sat idle for a week. We decided to head to the Domain early Monday morning. Angie packed the diaper bag, fed David, and changed David. We were running behind schedule, by an hour or so, but decided to still try even though it was heating up a bit outside. Greg loaded the car complete with diaper bag, stroller, and carrier.

We were off. We made a quick drive through at Chick-fil-A so that Greg and Angie could eat on the way.

As we were almost to our destination David began to get fussy, not typical of his personality, so far. We decided he must not like his car seat. When we arrived and parked Greg realized David was soaking wet, through the diaper and all the way to his clothes. We opened the back of our Suburban, changed him and put him into a new outfit. We were now ready to buy a watch battery.

We walked down to the jewelry store. Angie gave them her watch and was told it would be about 10 minutes. We decided to just wait. It was getting hot outside and we wanted David to stay out of the sun. While in the store David began to get fussy again. He was not wet or dirty, he was not tired, he should not have been hungry . . . but he was. There was no place to feed him at Ben Bridge Jewelers. So, Angie went across the street to Borders thinking there may be a mommy/baby lounge.

Upon entering Borders Angie found no lounge and no secluded location to feed the now screaming baby she was holding in her arms. Out of desperation she plopped herself down in the middle of Borders to feed David.

Greg walked in after waiting at the jewelry store for the watch and said, "I never thought I would ever see you do this!" Angie's reply, " I never thought I would either, but I was attracting too much attention with a nine day old screaming baby."Our plan was to feed David enough just to get him calm, head back to the car to finish his feeding. We quickly headed out of the bookstore and back to the car.

As we arrived at the car, Greg pulled David out of the stroller so that Angie could feed him and realized once again David was wet through his diaper down to his clothes. So, we once again changed his diaper and outfit in the back of our Suburban. Then Angie finished feeding him.

We decided we had three more hours until he would need to eat again. So, we headed for REI, we needed one item, and then we would go home. Greg carried David in and Angie ran to grab what we needed. They did not have what we were looking for, so three minutes and we were back at the car, to discover that yes David was wet again. We had no more outfits. We decided to head for home.

Upon arriving home Angie went upstairs to change the wet diaper. As soon as the clean and dry diaper was on it came off, now there was a dirty diaper. After two diaper changes in 5 minutes, David let us know he was hungry once again. Time for another feeding!

Our outing was memorable, but we never thought something so simple could have turned into something so comical! David initiated us into parenthood well!

David's Future

Upon arriving home from the hospital we were met by our neighbor's. We love having neighbors next door that would do anything for us at a moments notice. However, these neighbors are Aggies. We have many close Aggie friends and love them all. But - when David met the neighbors for the first time he displayed the sign of a Longhorn. It seems our David has already determined his college choice as he has flashed this sign a few times since we have been home.

Our Future Longhorn!
