Tiny Treasures from Small Writers

Angie loved the routine of each morning having school this summer before we did anything else!  The boys really actually enjoyed it too and only asked to skip school once or twice.  So, when she went back to work and her parents were here Angie's mom kept up the routine of school each morning.

Here are some books that Adam and David wrote at school when Angie was working.  They really are good and Gram says they were all independently written.

Here is Adam...

The next day Adam did some revision work by adding to his story and adding a page to his book.

Here is David who wrote a teaching book....

Here is a book where Adam did not write across pages, but he is telling a detailed story.  He has a problem and solution, characters, and setting.  Along with story elements he has rich vocabulary that keeps the readers attention.

And then David wrote a peek a boo book.  This is interesting because it seems he used some mentor texts.  We have a peek a boo book, but the way David structured his book reminds me of The Grouchy Lady Bug by Eric Carle.  So, to Angie she thinks he used a mentor to come up with his idea and a different mentor text to think about how the book should look.

The power of making books is the most incredible way of building a child's writing identity.  These boys see themselves as authors.  They have a way to communicate their thoughts to the world in a clear and organized way.

  1. David and Adam, both, really enjoy writing and creating their books. Both had remarkable detail and a well thought through story. We enjoyed experiencing their growing writing skills and their excitement in creating their books.

P.S. Gram is not only proud of their language, artistic abilities but their thought processes. They do enjoy the love of writing and they do not even realize it!!
